Good week for Obama: first Specter now Souter

Timing is everything, isn’t it? The GOP had a tough week. After losing Sen. Specter to the Democrats; thus, insuring a filibuster proof majority, they still made the best of a dismal situation. Republicans, such as Sen. Mitch McConnell, went on the air and publicly trashed the poor man. More classless acts ensued when Senators Alexander and Corker demanded their campaign contributions to Specter be returned. Bridges were burned by their pettiness and screeds

Today, the other shoe drops, Supreme Court Justice David Souter will retire in June. This is a big surprise for many who thought Justice Stevens or Ginsberg would be the first to exit. Obama will be able to nominate his first of probably four Supreme Court Justices to the bench. The best news of all is we have 59 Senators and when Franken is seated it will be 60. Filibuster proof has its rewards from time to time.
